Story Of Shattila Ekadashi Vrat

There once was a Brahmin lady who was very pious but never in her life had she donated anything valuable to the poor. Though she was devotional, the tendency not to do any charitable works had Lord Vishnu worried. He thought that though the Brahmin lady would attain Heaven after her death due to her piousness of her, what would she eat in Heaven as she never donated any food to the poor? Having thought so, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of a beggar and asked for alms from the Brahmin lady, who then donated him an earthen lump.

Lord Vishnu took it and went to Heaven. When the woman died, due to her piousness, she received an abode in Heaven, but there were no foods for her to eat. At this, the woman asked Lord Vishnu for deprival of food, even though she worshipped him religiously throughout her life. Then lord Vishnu advised her to attend Shattila Ekadashi Vrat in Vaikuntha Loka with other deities and listen to the importance of donations. Follow what you observe and then all your miseries will come to an end. The woman listened to the Shattila Ekadashi Vrat story, understood the importance of donating food, and observed the vrat religiously. Eventually, all her wishes were fulfilled by the grace of Lord Vishnu.

Conclusion Shattila Ekadashi Vrat holds supreme importance, considering devotees who observe the festival and worship Lord Vishnu with unflinching dedication are fated to receive peace, happiness, wealth, prosperity, and ultimately Vaikuntha Loka after death. The festival is very auspicious and celebrated magnificently in India. Devotees observe by paying reverential regard to Lord Vishnu.
