History Of Shani Jayanti
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shani is the son of Lord Sun and Devi Chaaya (Saranyu). Shani’s mother was the daughter of King Daksha. The legend has it that Devi Saranyu left Lord Sun as she could not bear the insufferable heat and luminance of him. She pursued meditation and left her shadow Chaaya or her shadowform in her place. Chaaya as a shadow form easily handled the heat of the sun. The birth of Shani took place when Devi Chaaya was meditating on Lord Shiva.
